Latin gives Belgium, Belgica and Belgia; Gothic and Old Church Slavonic are historical forms.
From the Belgae to België, Belgique and Belgien
Belgium carries the name of the Belgae, the peoples Julius Caesar described in the north of Gaul, between the Seine and the Marne and the Rhine; the Roman province there was Gallia Belgica. Latin forms survive in the table as Belgium, Belgica and Belgia, and the three national forms, België, Belgique and Belgien, all go back to them.
Most languages follow one of two patterns. A large group builds on Belgica: Bélgica in Spanish and Portuguese, Bèlgica in Catalan, Bélxica in Galician and Asturian, Belçika in Turkish and Azerbaijani. Northern and eastern languages take Belgia or Belgien, and Russian has Бельгия. A few languages translate: Welsh says Gwlad Belg and Cornish Pow Belg, both the land of the Belgians, while Kinyarwanda and Rundi write Ububiligi and Swahili Ubelgiji. Vietnamese uses a single syllable, Bỉ.
The capital has a separate form in each official language, Brussel, Bruxelles and Brüssel, and the city of Antwerp, Antwerpen in Dutch, is Anvers in French and Turkish, Anversa in Italian and Antuérpia in Portuguese.

Questions about the names and provinces of Belgium
What are the official names of Belgium?
Koninkrijk België in Dutch, Royaume de Belgique in French and Königreich Belgien in German.
How many provinces does Belgium have?
Ten, five in the Flemish Region and five in the Walloon Region. The Brussels-Capital Region is not part of any province. In German the provinces are Provinzen, for example Provinz Lüttich for Liège.
Why are the province codes BE-VAN or BE-WLG?
The first letter after BE- names the region, V for the Flemish Region (Vlaams Gewest) and W for Wallonia, and the last two letters the province.
