Subdivisions of Sweden: 21 counties (län) and 290 municipalities
Sweden is divided into 21 counties (län) and 290 municipalities (kommuner). This list gives every county with its seat and ISO 3166-2 code, all 290 municipalities by county, and the names in the minority languages of the north: Finnish, Meänkieli, Northern and Lule Sami in Norrbotten, Southern Sami in Jämtland and Västerbotten, and the Dalecarlian names of Dalarna.

Swedish names and the languages of the north
Every county name ends in län, and every municipality is a kommun. Two entries carry a second name in brackets: Malung-Sälen (Malung) in Dalarna, and Gotland (Visby), the single municipality of Gotland County, whose seat is Visby.
In the north the list adds the names in four more languages. In Norrbotten each of the 14 municipalities has a Finnish, a Meänkieli, a Northern Sami and a Lule Sami form; Överkalix, for example, is Ylikainuu in Finnish, Ylikainus in Meänkieli, Badje-Gáinnas in Northern Sami and Badje-Gájnaj in Lule Sami. Jämtland and Västerbotten have Southern Sami names, so Östersund is Staare and Umeå Upmeje. In Dalarna the list records the Dalecarlian forms, the local speech of Dalarna, such as Övdaln for Älvdalen and Mųora for Mora.

One town, five names
Several Norrbotten names have nothing in common across the languages. Boden is Puuti in Meänkieli and Suttis or Buvdá in Northern Sami; Gällivare is Jällivaara in Finnish, Jellivaara in Meänkieli and Jiellevárri or Váhčir in Northern Sami. Övertorneå is Ylitornio in Finnish but Matarengi in Meänkieli, and Haparanda keeps its Swedish form in Lule Sami while Finnish and Meänkieli write Haaparanta.
